Freeze Your Gizzard annual run enjoyed by hundreds

By Audrey Carpenter

The wind did not deter runners and walkers for the 21st Annual Freeze Your Gizzard 5K on Nov. 18 at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg. The Town of Leesburg together with Loudoun Hunger Relief hosted the event, which is a fundraiser for LHR.

The 5K race ran through a scenic cross-country course in the park’s 138 acres.

Participants brought canned goods by the bagful, which were loaded up by volunteers and taken back to LHR for distribution in their upcoming Thanksgiving holiday food distribution.

It was a beautiful, crisp fall day and runners of all ages and sizes showed up, many in colorful tutus, felt turkey hats and striped knee high socks.

The employees of Hancock Orthodontics in Leesburg participate in the race each year and give a donation to Loudoun Hunger Relief.
