Downtown Architectural Survey to begin Dec. 9
The Town of Leesburg will be conducting an architectural survey of the Old & Historic District beginning Monday, Dec. 9.
The purpose of the project is to update the Town’s records on the exterior appearance and context of residential and commercial buildings located in the historic downtown. The last survey contains data that was collected between 1998 and 2017.
The survey update will assist the Department of Community Development and the Board of Architectural Review in their work to preserve and protect the historic district for the community. Property owners will also be able to gain a more accurate picture of the architectural history of their buildings.
The Town has contracted Stantec Consulting Services Inc. to complete the survey. Stantec’s team of architectural historians will conduct the first round of surveys beginning the week of Monday, Dec. 9 and will wear neon vests while surveying for easy identification.
The group will return in mid-winter to complete the survey. Property owners in the Old & Historic District have been notified by mail of the upcoming surveys, and have been invited to attend open house meetings that will provide information and address any questions.
More information about the project can be found online at www.leesburgva.gov/architecturalsurvey. Questions may be directed to Preservation Manager Lauren Murphy at lmurphy@leesburgva.gov or 703-771-2773.
