Ashburn man arrested for DUI, firearm possession, and more

The Leesburg Police Department has arrested an Ashburn man on multiple serious charges following a traffic stop late Thursday evening.

At approximately 11:42 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 85 mph in a 45-mph zone in the 700 block of E. Market Street. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the driver was intoxicated, operating the vehicle without a license and that the license plate had been altered. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a firearm with no serial number. Jimmy F. Lopez Gomez, 28 of Ashburn, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Intoxicated (DWI – 4th offense)
  • DWI Refusal of Tests (2nd offense)
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Removal or Alteration of Serial Number (Firearm)
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Driving on a Suspended License After DWI
  • Altering a License Plate
  • Speeding

“This arrest underscores the critical importance of our vigilant enforcement efforts in curbing dangerous driving behaviors such as excessive speeding,” said Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat. “The combination of high speed, alcohol impairment, and the presence of a firearm illegally in the vehicle poses a grave risk to public safety.”

Lopez Gomez was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held pending a bond review.
