Artist submissions for private property mural at Virginia Village
The Town of Leesburg is seeking design submissions for the installation of mural on the exterior of Maverick Bikes, located at 32-C Catoctin Circle SE in Virginia Village Shopping Center. This call for submissions is the next step of the Private Property Mural Pilot Program, which was approved by the Leesburg Town Council on March 8.
The total size of the mural area is approximately 100 feet long and 24 feet high. The design of the mural should be relevant to the approved theme, “Celebrating Music in Leesburg”. All submissions will be considered.
The call is open to all artists and artist teams in the Washington, D.C. metro region. Emerging artists and artist teams are encouraged to apply. There is no requirement for previous public art experience.
All submissions will be reviewed by an ad-hoc committee, and the property owner will review each submission. A final recommendation will be sent to the Leesburg Commission on Public Art (“COPA”), which will review the recommendation prior to presenting it to the Town Council. Once the Town Council has approved the design, the artist will be notified. Installation of the proposed mural by the selected artist will take place once the artist has entered into a legal contract with the Town of Leesburg.
