Vulgarity has no place for community leaders
Dear Editor:
After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark pro-abortion case
Roe v. Wade in June, Loudoun County School Board member Atoosa Reaser
and Loudoun County Board Supervisor Juli Briskman took to the streets
with other women to protest the decision.
Nothing wrong with that until you see the two of them appear in a selfie
on social media proudly grinning alongside a friend with a crude sign
that says: “Public cervix announcement: F______ You!”
While Reaser and Briskman have the right to protest all they want, as
community leaders, if they are expressing their opinions in public, they
should clean up their act.
As a School Board member who is vulgar in public, Reaser sets a pathetic
example for school children. And Briskman—who gained notoriety before
she was elected to the County Board of Supervisors by giving the Trump motorcade
the finger—represents the County shamefully with yet another lewd
gesture.
The Board of Supervisors and the School Board should consider censure.
In the private sector, many employers would reprimand their employees
for vulgarity on the job. It’s unprofessional.
Yes, these women are entitled to free speech, but Briskman and Reaser
should not abuse that freedom to publicly demean Loudoun County.

Of all the people in all of Loudoun to call out a Community Leader for inappropriate conduct; Scott Pio is the LAST person who should speak up on this matter. While Sup Briskman and SB rep Reaser’s behavior was unprofessional, inappropriate, and not what we want or expect from elected officials; the list is long with examples of Pio’s rude, insulting, and inappropriate behavior. How about all 3 of you keep your antics in Algonkian and out of Blue Ridge please.
SOLUTION: Run better candidates in local elections, emphasize voting by independents not just regular party folks and exhibit some creativity when developing County themes instead of relying on federal talking points. Here are just a few in case you don’t have enough to fill in a brochure:
Loudoun tax rates are not just too high but have remained unfair for many BOS terms.
Small lots in Loudoun are treated unfairly
Instead of crying about needing more housing density why not fight for more flexible zoning for small lots and individual houses including allowing a second access apartment for a rural home!
Route 15 is an interstate highway NOT a historical landmark which some think looks better with bumper to bumper traffic or even periodic fatalities.
Shouldn’t the new Ashburn metro connection include at least one non-stop to DC?
Shouldn’t the Greenway provide Loudoun with monthly discounted usage tickets since ALL of it is in Loudoun and we severely under assess the toll value of this road?
Shouldn’t LCPS be forced to operate efficiently as state statute 22.1-79 requires “utmost efficiency” in its’ authority of school boards?
Shouldn’t Loudoun be able to charge some property tax to MWAA parking lots on Dulles Airport? Are you even working on this?
Shouldn’t Loudoun be able (as state statute allows) to charge 28% oof the property tax rate to non-charitable non-profits like hospitals? They do benefit from police and fire protection don’t they?
If you need more just ask!
🙂
Pio cannot operate outside of his echo chamber. He thinks the path to “turning Loudoun red” (his buzz words, not mine) is to go harder right. He’s wrong. He should be used to being wrong by now.
F You, Pio. Pretty disingenuous coming from the guy who literally tried to run people over in the streets in his Jeep. You are one small dude with a whole lot of really small thoughts.
I am grateful that Reaser and Briskman continually speak up in favor of abortion rights. Western Loudoun needs more reps like them, and fewer like LaRock who harasses his neighbors. The antichoice movement’s history is as ugly as America First’s.
Scott Pio, who lost by double digits in his HOD race to Delegate Reid regularly puts his foot in his mouth due to his stupidity on Twitter and continuously harasses Chair Phyllis Randall. He really should really stay out of this and let the adults talk. The voters in Algonkian district find forced birth to be a lot more offensive than some curse words on a sign. Spare us the outrage.
