Leesburg Police investigate fatal crash

The Leesburg Police Department Traffic Management Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred July 16, early morning.

On July 16, shortly before 3 a.m., Leesburg Police Dispatchers received reports of a two-vehicle crash on the southbound Leesburg Bypass (Rt. 15) in the area of Edwards Ferry Road NE involving a tractor trailer and an SUV.

Upon arrival, officers located both vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway near Tractor Supply. The driver of the SUV, George Mwesigwa, 18, of Leesburg, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department TMU.
