Purcellville police report Feb. 11, 2022
02/04/22 12:27 a.m. 300 Block of E. Main Street DUI- Drugs
An officer observed a vehicle traveling on Main Street extremely slowly, displaying an expired temporary registration, and stopped the car. The driver exhibited signs of drug intoxication and admitted to smoking marijuana before driving.
He was run through a battery of field sobriety tests, which he failed and was arrested. A search warrant was obtained and a blood sample was drawn. The driver was transported to the jail, where he was ordered held until sober.
02/04/22 12:10 p.m. On-Line Identity Theft
The complainant received a letter from the Virginia Employment Commission informing him that he had received unemployment benefits for a claim filed in November 2021. He reported that he never filed an unemployment claim.

02/04/22 7:05 p.m. Town of Purcellville Emergency Custody Order
An elderly resident of a group home slapped a much younger and stronger resident, who declined to press charges. Staff at the residence obtained an emergency custody order.
The resident was transported to the ER for medical clearance and boarding until a mental health bed could be located. Police sat with the patient until 10:15 p.m. on 2/5/22, when the patient was moved to the mental health unit.
2/06/22 8:41 p.m. 100 Block of N 16th Street Solicitation
The complainant sold jewelry online, but was delivering in person to the buyer, as the purchaser lived in the same complex. The purchaser completed the transaction by paying, but then offered the seller an additional $20.00 if he would perform a certain sex act.
The complainant declined the offer. He reported to officers that there may have been a language barrier between the two men. Officers spoke to the purchaser, who admitted to the solicitation but assumed it would be consensual and stated that he did not offer money.
02/06/22 10:30 p.m. 200 Block of W. Main Domestic Dispute
The victim reported that she had been assaulted by her husband. Post assault, he fell asleep and she took advantage of the opportunity to gather her children and a few belongings, and left the house. She reported the assault by phone, from an unknown location. She was going to meet with her lawyer and speak with staff at the LAWS shelter, before meeting with police in person. Update: an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect of the assault.
02/07/22 1:49 p.m. 500 Maple Avenue Overdose
A man picked up a friend at a home in Purcellville. While driving, the passenger became lethargic and passed out. The driver saw a police officer on Maple Avenue and flagged him down.
They stopped at the Safety Center. While medics were summoned, the officer and later the medics utilized Narcan, without success. Eventually medics revived the subject with an IV administered dose. He was transported to the emergency room at INOVA Cornwell, were he left without seeking treatment.
02/07/22 10:40 p.m. Hirst Road @ the W & OD Trail DUI
An officer on patrol observed a car exiting the WO&D trail onto Hirst Road. The officer learned that the driver exited the Route 7 bypass onto Berlin Turnpike, where he turned onto the bike trail instead of Hirst Road, not recognizing that the trail was designed for Schwinn’s, not Suburban’s.
The driver reeked of alcoholic beverage but denied drinking. He failed a battery of field sobriety tests and was arrested. At the Adult Detention Center, he took a breathalyzer test, yielding a result of .13. He was ordered held until sober.
02/08/22 3:26 p.m. 609 E. Main Street Larceny
During an audit, staff discovered that money was missing from a bank deposit. The employee responsible for making the deposit has been identified. The investigation is on-going.
02/09/22 2:12 p.m. 300 Block of Upper Brook Terrace Larceny
As a result of people playing on the ice in the storm runoff pond, a no trespassing sign was posted. Sometime during the time period of 2/7 and 2/9/22 the sign was removed.
02/09/22 12:22 p.m. Town of Purcellville Attempted Suicide
A 17 year old purposely overdosed on prescribed medicine. She was transported to the hospital for both medical and mental health evaluations.
A therapist determined that upon medical clearance, the patient would be released to a parent, with a safety plan in place, in lieu of further hospitalization.
02/10/22 1:45 a.m. 100 Block of N. 16th Street Domestic Argument
Neighbors heard yelling from a nearby apartment and called the police. Officers determined that one of the parties found what they thought was evidence of infidelity on the others cell phone. Separate interviews were conducted with each, both reporting a verbal, but not physical argument. As things were calm, the parties deciding that they would both remain home, one sleeping in the bedroom and the other banished to the sofa in the family room.
02/10/22 5:33 p.m. 431 E. Main Street DUI
An officer responded for a two car accident in which one car rear ended a car that stopped for traffic. The officer noted that one of the drivers apparently engaged in heavy day drinking, as he reeked of the odor of alcoholic beverage. He failed his field sobriety testing and was arrested. At the ADC, his BAC was found to be BAD, yielding a result of .21. He was charged with DUI and additionally with operating on a suspended driver’s license.
