Hillsboro to Host Loudoun Appalachian Trail Festival
Outdoor enthusiasts, families and curious newcomers alike are invited to celebrate the beauty and culture of the Appalachian Trail during the Loudoun Appalachian Trail Festival on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the historic Old Stone School.
Presented by the Appalachian Trail Communities of Bluemont, Hillsboro and Round Hill, the free, family-friendly festival honors the world’s most famous footpath while showcasing the region’s outdoor heritage, local businesses and conservation efforts.
Set against the backdrop of scenic western Loudoun County, the event will feature live Appalachian and Americana music throughout the day, along with educational trail talks from hiking experts and conservation organizations. Featured speakers include National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Heather Anderson.
Festivalgoers can also enjoy a variety of interactive outdoor activities, including a rock-climbing wall, obstacle course, nature crafts and a nature-inspired art show designed to engage visitors of all ages.
Local food trucks, regional craft beer and Virginia wine vendors will be on site, offering attendees a taste of the area’s vibrant culinary scene.
Organizers are also extending a special welcome to Appalachian Trail thru-hikers traveling through the region. Complimentary services for hikers include free shuttles from the trail, free camping, WiFi and charging stations, complimentary food and plenty of “trail magic” from local volunteers.
Whether visitors are seasoned backpackers or simply looking for a relaxing summer outing, organizers say the festival offers a chance to connect with nature, learn about trail stewardship and experience the welcoming spirit of Loudoun County’s trail communities.
The Loudoun Appalachian Trail Festival will take place rain or shine at the Old Stone School, located at 37098 Charles Town Pike in Hillsboro. For more details go to www.loudounat.org.
