Ruzic Announces Campaign for Commonwealth’s Attorney

Ryan Ruzic of Purcellville is a lawyer who has worked in both Prosecutor and Public Defender Offices across Virginia. Ruzic became the youngest Chief Public Defender in Virginia when he was appointed in 2021. He has won cases in front of the Virginia Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of Virginia. He regularly lectures at law schools, universities and criminal justice training academies across Virginia on trial practice, negotiation, and legal ethics.

After growing up on a farm and studying political science and government, Ruzic came to Virginia in 2008 to study law at William and Mary Law School, the first law school in the United States. At William and Mary Ruzic met his wife, also a lawyer, and has lived in Virginia ever since.

Ruzic started his legal career after graduation from law school at the Arlington Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and served Loudoun for years in the Public Defender’s Office prior to his appointment as a Chief Public Defender. In addition to his fifteen-year public service career in criminal justice, Ruzic has been appointed by the Virginia State Bar to Chair Loudoun’s legal ethics district committee where he judges ethics complaints and disciplines lawyers for unethical behavior.

He has also served as the Chair of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee and is on the board of the Loudoun Bar Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving youth and families through public service projects and educational initiatives throughout Loudoun County.

“We need to work together to ensure Loudoun has safe streets, safe schools, and that the rule of law is applied equally to everyone,” said Ruzic. “No one is below the law’s protection, even the very poor and powerless, and no one is above the law’s reach, even the very rich and powerful.

There has never been a more important time to fight for the American values of freedom, the rule of law, and equality for every person living in Loudoun.”

Ruzic enters the race endorsed by Loudoun’s Congressman Suhas Subramanyam and Loudoun’s entire state legislative delegation: Senator Russet Perry, Senator Kannan Srinivasan, Delegate David Reid, Delegate Atoosa Reaser, Delegate Marty Martinez, Delegate JJ Singh, and Delegate McAuliff.
