Temporary closure of portion of W&OD Trail for Broad Run Bridge
Beginning March 9, a half-mile portion of the W&OD Trail will be temporarily closed between Pacific Boulevard and Loudoun County Parkway, in Ashburn, Virginia, for critical safety repairs of Broad Run Bridge. A detour route is typically identified during trail construction; however, due to the time-sensitive nature of the repairs, a detour route has not been established.
A recent safety inspection revealed that boards on the bridge were loose and potentially hazardous to trail users. The bridge will be resurfaced over the course of six weeks. The work is expected to be completed and the closed portion of the trail reopened in mid-April, ahead of the trail’s busy spring season.
During the temporary partial closure, multiple parking options are available.
- For trail users heading east of the half-mile closure, parking is available at the Pacific Boulevard parking lot, located at 21695 Pacific Boulevard, Ashburn, VA 20166.
- For trail users heading west of the half-mile closure, parking is available at the following locations:
- Hampshire Park/Smith Switch parking lot, located at 21315 Smith Switch Rd. Ashburn, VA 20147
- Parking lot across from Carolina Brothers Pit Barbecue, located at 20694 Ashburn Rd., Ashburn, VA 20147
- Jackpit Lane parking lot, located at 42998 Jackpit Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147
During the temporary closure, signs will be posted throughout the trail to inform trail users of the half-mile trail closure at Broad Run Bridge.
