Loudoun County to launch free transit on demand service July 7
On Monday, July 7, Loudoun County Transit will launch a new pilot service, Transit On Demand, which operates on an on-demand basis, powered by a smartphone application. This flexible, app-based service will operate in real time, allowing riders to request fare-free rides within a defined 5-to-6-mile service area within the Leesburg zone.
Using a smartphone app called LC Transit On Demand, or by phone, passengers can request rides that offer short wait times and convenient pickup and drop-off locations near their starting point and destination. The Transit On Demand service will be available weekdays, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
To verify if their trip falls within the pilot service area, riders can check the service area map available at loudoun.gov/TransitOnDemand and in the LC Transit On Demand app. Pickup and drop-off will occur at the closest designated stop to the rider’s requested location. Transit On Demand can pick up riders at more than 100 stop locations within Leesburg. Once a trip is requested, the app will provide 20-minute pickup windows based on the desired arrival or departure time. Riders who book a Transit On Demand trip will receive real-time updates, including a more accurate arrival time and a notification when their vehicle has arrived.
Identifying Transit On Demand Vehicles
The Transit On Demand vehicle is a minivan and is branded with the Loudoun County Transit logo and wrapped in green lettering, identifying it as the Transit On Demand Service. The van offers a comfortable ride with air conditioning and ample space for carrying packages.
