Fair Housing Month Event April 21
In observance of April as Fair Housing Month, the Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development will host a community event: “Know Your Fair Housing Rights & Responsibilities,” Monday, April 21, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Douglass Community Center Multipurpose Room, 407 East Market Street in Leesburg.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend to receive information about fair housing from Loudoun County government representatives and community partners and participate in interactive trivia games. Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall is scheduled to present a proclamation proclaiming April as Fair Housing Month, which is expected to be approved at the Board’s April 15 business meeting.
In addition to the Department of Housing and Community Development, representatives from other county departments and community organizations will be on hand to provide information. They include:
- Dulles Area Association of Realtors
- Equal Rights Center
- LAWS Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services
- Loudoun County Accessibility Services
- Loudoun County Information & Referral Services
- Loudoun County Transit and Commuter Services
- Loudoun County Workforce Resource Center
This year marks the 57th anniversary of the enactment of the federal Fair Housing Act and the 53rd anniversary of the Virginia Fair Housing Law.
The Fair Housing Act and Virginia Fair Housing Law prohibit discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, military status, sources of funds and familial status.
