Suspect in local Trump campaign office burglary arrested in California

Toby Shane Kessler, 39, of no fixed address, has been arrested in California in connection with the Aug. 11, 2024, burglary of the local Trump campaign office in Ashburn, Virginia. On Nov. 30, 2024, Mr. Kessler was detained by the University of California San Francisco Police Department for squatting in an unoccupied campus dormitory.

On Aug. 11, at approximately 8:11 p.m., surveillance footage captured Mr. Kessler forcing entry through the back door of the Ashburn office and spending a brief period inside before leaving. The office, located in the 20000 block of Ashbrook Place, serves as the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee’s headquarters and, at the time, the Trump campaign’s local office. Mr. Kessler faces burglary charges under Virginia Code § 18.2-91.
