Overnight Ramp Closures at Rt. 7/287 Interchange set for June 18-19

The Rt. 7 entrance ramps at the Rt. 7/287 Interchange are scheduled for temporary overnight closures
on June 18 and 19, for work related to the Rt. 7/287 Interchange improvements project. The work involves drilling to extract samples of asphalt for testing as part of the design process.

The closures are currently scheduled as follows:

  • On Tuesday, June 18, the Rt. 7 eastbound entrance ramp toward Leesburg will close from midnight (12 a.m.) to 4 a.m. During the closure, access to Rt. 7 is provided via the westbound ramp only.
  • On Wednesday, June 19, the Rt. 7 westbound entrance ramp toward Round Hill will close from midnight (12 a.m.) to 4 a.m. During the closure, access to Rt. 7 is provided via the eastbound ramp only.
  • View a map of the detours.

Drivers on Rt. 287 who cannot access Rt. 7 in the intended direction due to the ramp closure will detour via the open Route 7 entrance ramp in the opposite direction, drive a short distance on Rt. 7 and change direction at the next interchange.

The temporary closures of the Rt. 7 entrance ramps at the Rt.7/287 Interchange have been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation for overnight hours, when traffic in the area is typically reduced.

If the work is delayed due to weather impacts, the county will announce the change for the community’s awareness.

About the Project

This project funds the design and construction of improvements for the Rt. 7/287 Interchange in the Town of Purcellville. Within an estimated distance of 1.2 miles, the project scope includes lengthened and widened ramps, turn lanes and expanded turn and through lanes along Rt. 287 between Eastgate Drive and the westbound Rt. 7 entrance/exit ramps. It also includes expanded pedestrian access to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail and traffic signal modifications.

Construction of the improvements is expected to begin in the winter of 2028.
