Leesburg Man charged with impersonating law enforcement

James Griggs, 70, of Leesburg, has been charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, assault on law enforcement, and obstruction of justice with force.

Yesterday morning, the Leesburg Police Department received a report of an adult male in the 600 block of McLeary Square SE in Leesburg, who was purporting to be a federal law enforcement officer and was threatening another individual.

Leesburg Police Officers responded and located Griggs outside. Upon officers encountering Griggs, he implied that he had a weapon on his person, became combative, and in the process of being taken into custody, assaulted an officer.
