January a busy month for LCPS
By Audrey Carpenter
January will be a busy month for the Loudoun County Public System as students come back to school on Tuesday, Jan. 2, the same day that all nine new members of the School Board officially get sworn in at a ceremony and have an organizational meeting from 4 to 5 p.m. at the School Administration Building, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.
If you cannot attend in person but would like to see the proceedings, you can view the live stream on the LCPS Webcast web page or on Comcast channel 18 and Verizon FIOS channel 43.
The first meeting of the new school board will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the School Administration Building from 4 – 10 p.m. Again, this meeting and all school board meetings can be watched live and the meeting agenda can be found under the meetings tab here: http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/loudoun/Board.nsf
A second school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 5 – 10 p.m.
Installation Ceremony & Gala
There will be a Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and School Board Installation Ceremony that is open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Washington Dulles, 45425 Holiday Drive, Dulles. The purpose is to welcome the new members to the community.
Later the same evening, from 6:30 – 10 p.m. there will be a gala held at the same location, also open to the public. Both events are free and there is no registration required.
Community Listening Sessions
LCPS Superintendent, Dr. Aaron Spence, will be holding four Community Listening Sessions that the public is encouraged to participate in throughout January. In his new role as superintendent, Dr. Spence is visiting every high school before March to get input and feedback from the public on three key areas: developing relationships with the community, accelerating the Superintendent’s learning about LCPS, and building on success while making meaningful changes.
All four meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.:
Jan. 11: Freedom High School, 25450 Riding Center Drive in South Riding
Jan. 17: Loudoun County High School, 415 Dry Mill Rd SW in Leesburg
Jan. 24: Potomac Falls High School, 46400 Algonkian Pkwy in Sterling
Jan. 31: Academies of Loudoun, 42074 Loudoun Academy Drive in Leesburg
2025 School Budget
Superintendent Dr. Spence will give a “Presentation of the FY25 Superintendent’s Estimate of Needs” on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 6:30 – 10 p.m. at the School Administration Building.
And then on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 6:30 – 10 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 30 starting at 4 p.m. there will be operating budget work session meetings.
