Juneteenth Clebration at Claude Moore Park

The Loudoun County Juneteenth Committee announces plans for its first Juneteenth Celebration at
Claude Moore Park, Sterling, VA on Saturday, June 19th beginning at 11:00 with a car caravan from
Belmont Country Club to Claude Moore Park. Activities begin at 12:00 at Claude Moore Park with the
traditional flag raising ceremony by the legendary Buffalo Soldiers. It is a family-friendly event.
Early afternoon will include speeches by local officials, readings, poetry and re-enactments. Gospel
music will be provided by the popular Rev. Isaac Howard and the Howard Harmonizers. Late
afternoon will kick off with a special appearance by the legendary blues singer, Johnny Rawls
followed by jazz and funk by the Funkativity band.
Throughout the day, activities include kids’ games, fishing, card games, the tug of war game, mini
Juneteenth classes, story walk and much more. The menus of local food vendors include barbecue,
fish, pizza,soul food, snow cones, etc.
Entry and parking are free. Bring your own blanket/folding chair. Mask wearing is optional outside.
Event organizes will adhere to all CDC guidelines including social distancing guidelines.
This year’s theme is, “Prosperity Through Juneteenth” with the focus on the mental, physical and
financial aspects of personal prosperity.
