Northam Defeats Gillespie
Democrat Dr. Ralph S. Northam won the Governor’s race and became Virginia’s 73rd Governor, beating out Republican candidate Edward. W. “Ed” Gillespie. Northam got 1,344,027 votes – 53.51 percent to Gillespie’s 1,137,772 – 43.30 percent.
In the Lieutenant Governor’s race Democrat Justin Fairfax got 1,306,108 votes – 52.31 percent to Jill H. Vogel’s 1,188,402 votes – 47.60 percent.
Democratic incumbent Attorney General Mark R. Herring won reelection with 1,323,429 votes – 52.89 percent. John D. Adams had 47.03 percent – 1,176,729 votes.
In the House of Delegates 10th District Democrat Wendy W. Gooditis won 55.35 percent to Republican incumbent J. Randall Minchew’s 44.55 percent. In the 32nd District Democrat David A. Reid won with 58.48 percent of the vote upsetting Republican incumbent Thomas S. “Tag” Greason who had 41.41 percent. In the 87th District Democratic incumbent John J. Bell won handily with 63.97 percent to Republican challenger Subba R. Kolla’s 35.81 percent.
Republican incumbent Dave A. LaRock won reelection with 52.43 percent of the vote to Tia L. Walbridge’s 47.43 percent.
